With very limited resources, I worked with our production manager to engineer, produce, and direct a live stream of the 2018 local election results in Juneau, Alaska.
Creative solutions to resource and time constraints was the name of the game for this production. With only a low-bandwidth connection to election central and no staff available for data entry of election returns, we used a low-framerate shot of the city’s precinct spreadsheet (which they projected at city hall as their only source for real-time returns). To with staff and space constraints, we put a remotely operated camera in the radio studio to put our hosts on the air and creatively combined that with shots of the spreadsheet and lower thirds to bring viewers the fullest possible picture of election returns.
