To promote the launch of KTOO’s podcast Cruise Town, we knew we wanted to showcase Juneau’s setting and history, while also visualizing the impact of the cruise industry.
To match an existing script, I drew on the station’s footage archives as well as capturing lots of new aerials, time-lapses, and B-roll.
Safely and responsibly flying a drone around a busy tourist destination like Juneau is a challenge. After coordinating with over a dozen agencies and organizations (including law enforcement and the cruise industry), we found a day with good weather and ships in port. While carefully monitoring the radio frequencies for the busy seaplane base, I flew three flights to capture planned angles of a ship departing (and few unplanned ones).
