In Southeast Alaska, the Celebration is the premiere event featuring Native arts and culture. The biennial event kicks off with a canoe landing ceremony, and in 2018 we decided to capture the popular event from the air.
After weeks of coordination with event organizers, participants, law enforcement, the Coast Guard, and others, everything went off smoothly. After a technically demanding shoot in a difficult environment with large crowds, many moving boats, and multiple drones in the air, I did a quick-turnaround edit for social media with a unique perspective that turned out to be some of our most popular coverage of the whole event.
